More Benefits for Independent Creators. Part 2 of 3

Pages 41 to 46 of "Comic NFTs - An Ethical Approach"

This week I continue the section where I talk specifically about some of the benefits for creators of creating Comic NFTs. Many of these are win-win features for comic creators and for customers.

An Important Update re. Royalties

In this episode, I talk about resale royalties. Since writing the book, some of the largest NFT marketplaces have made royalty payments optional for the users of their sites. This includes the OG NFT marketplace, OpenSea, which recently made the royalty percentage buyer selectable (with a minimum value of 0.5%) rather than the higher royalty percentage set by the creator.

But this does not mean royalties are dead. Instead, the royalty debate has moved to the protocol level. The Hedera network, as just one example, allows you to create NFTs with built-in royalties that can’t be bypassed, and this is being promoted as a feature to attract creators. There is also a proposal to make this an optional feature of Ethereum.

I’ll be watching developments and will likely post an update later this year.

I drop a new section of the book each Thursday. The entire book is available as a download to new free/paid/comp subscribers to Tech for Comics (look for the link in the welcome e-mail). For more details, see:
