One of the most common questions I hear from new comic creators is, “Where can I find collaborators to help me create my comic?” I am starting two separate posts to act as perpetual resources with that question in mind.
Writers, this is a resource designed to be a place to start your search for an artist.
This is meant to be a living document that is constantly updated. If you know of another resource where writers can find an artist, please leave a comment, and I’ll add it to this page.
Where to find an artist:
1) Your cohort
There are several amazing online writing courses available. Joining one of these courses or even simply joining the associated message boards or Discord servers can be a great way to find and establish long-term connections with writers who are at the same stage of their comic career as you.
2) Creative services
There are organizations out there that will help connect you with talent.
Comics Experience Creative Services. This is who found and deployed the talent for the prologue to The Lump Sum Saga. The service also handles all the contracts and buffers you from risk by vetting the talent.

3) GlobalComix
GlobalComix continues to be very supportive of indie creators. Be sure to check out their very active commissions page. This is an awesome talent database.
4) Facebook Groups
Connecting Comic Book Writers and Artists (37.8K Members)
5) Reddit
There are subreddits where you may find a collaborator.
6) Deploy some hashtag magic on social media.
Writers looking to collaborate frequently tag their work on Twitter & Instagram. The following tags will help you find artists, but this doesn’t necessarily me they are available to take on your project.
#comicart (6,178,702)
#comicbookartist (612,211)
#drawingcomics (128,076)
#indiecomicsartist (3,471)
#comicscreator (2803)
#comicbookproject (1,955)
#comicsillustrator (518)
7) The comment section of this post.
Artists, are you open to collaborating? Add your information in a comment attached to this post. Be sure to indicate your page rate expectations and where a writer might be able to read an example of your work.
Subscribers, if you are uncomfortable posting your everyday e-mail address, I may be able to set up a forwarding address for you. Send a request to thelumpsumsaga@gmail.com.
Hi, Greg here. I am putting together a Shopify store and I want to simulate the back of comic ad pages from the 60's/70's. Specifically, I'd love some black & white art product images like you see in the "Treasure Chest of Fun" - #4 on this page https://www.ranker.com/list/vintage-comic-book-ads/ranker-comics. Hit me up at thelumpsumsaga@gmail.com for more details.
Hi! I'm Eric, I'm a writer, a sometime-letterer, and I'm interested in collaborating with creative people, or even just meeting/chatting! Though I can't pin down a genre, I can say that my focuses are character, story structure, and creativity—I like unique projects, but feel that a story is only meaningful if you care about the characters, and think a story only *works* if it has a solid structure. Here's a superhero-romantic-comedy sample of both my writing and lettering: bit.ly/when-starstrike-met-typhoon . And here's an Indiana-Jones-type-meets-vampires-and-sci-fi writing sample: bit.ly/all-you-know . My favorite comics writers are Bill Watterson, Kieron Gillen, Ryan North, and Jonathan Hickman, and my favorite non-comics writers are Shakespeare, Miyazaki, Dickens, Sorkin, Calvino, John Irving, Tolkien, and Nora Ephron. Thanks for reading, and hope to talk to some of you in the future! —Eric, ericherzobrien@gmail.com
