Setting Up Scrivener Nag Mode
Open your work-in-progress automatically at a given time.
Hey everyone, Greg here.
I've got a quick tip to share. Did you know you can schedule files to launch automatically on your Mac? It's a useful trick that I recently discovered that I’ve found super useful.
I've set up my computer to automatically launch my work-in-progress Scrivener file every weekday at 6:00 AM. It's a fantastic way to have it ready for my morning writing session. I use it for writing comics in Scrivener, but this technique works for any file on your Mac, whether it's a Word doc, spreadsheet, or even an app.
We'll be using the Apple calendar app for this. Take a look at my schedule, where I've set up a 'Launch Scrivener' event at 6:00 AM on weekdays.
To create a new launch event, simply right-click and select 'New Event.' Give it a useful title.
Next, in the alert section, set the desired time and choose the repeating pattern you want. For example, if you want to work on a specific file every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, you can set that up to repeat every week.
I've chosen to keep mine without an end date, but you can specify one if you prefer.
Now, here's where the magic happens. Instead of the regular options, select 'Custom' under the alert section.
Within the custom settings, select 'Open file.' Browse and select the file you want to launch. For instance, if I want to do my comics homework on those days, I'll choose my comic homework file and click 'OK.'
That's it! The file will automatically load at 8:30 AM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, repeating the pattern every week. This even works if your computer is in sleep mode.
I hope you find this tip helpful! Give it a try, and if you know someone else who would find this helpful, be sure to share this post. Enjoy!
