It's the second week of the Lump Dog⢠campaign, and todayâs main task was to announce the backer milestone bonuses. The goal is to provide something fun and of value for my current backers while adding a âticking clockâ to the campaign.
How it Works
When the campaign reaches the milestones of 50, 75, and 100 backers, two things will happen:
First, all backers who have pledged at any level will have a digital issue of another comic added to their order. The first comic in the queue is Gone by the talented Simon Birk.
Second, I'll be spinning the wheel of scarcity, once per variant cover.
What does this mean? Let's say we are spinning for the Rahmaan Hameed variant, and the spinner selects 24. Currently, the promised maximum number of copies that will be manufactured is 75. So, 51 (75 minus 24) would be the new maximum number we produce. And, depending on how many backers the campaign gets, we could reduce that number up to two more times. So, in theory, the two people who have already purchased that variant could end up being the only people able to buy that variant! Seeing how this plays out should be a lot of fun.
Added rules:
The rarity can never be lower than the number of each variant already sold. If you've purchased a variant before a milestone is triggered, your purchase is locked in.
The public rarity count for each variant does not include copies created as creator "comps" not available to the public (max 20; currently 13).
We currently have 44 backers. I look forward to spinning the Wheel of Scarcity soon! Iâve never tried this before - in fact Iâve never set milestones based on backer count before (only the pledged amount) - so the verdict is still out on whether this strategy will move the needle.
UPDATE
Itâs been a while since Iâve posted, mostly because Iâve been under the weather and really didnât accomplish much. Heck, I spent this morning in the dentistâs chair, and that felt productive. That tells you the speed at which Iâve been operating.
Tasks (accomplished since I last wrote that I can remember)
I launched my KingSumo viral giveaway.
I approved the âproofâ gif for the lenticular cover after one revision. Those cover stickers should be in production now.
I think we nailed down the final contract language for another project.
What I am waiting for
A reply from an artist I am trying to recruit for another project.
Gratitude
I am grateful for my surroundings. When Vancouver is in âbeautifulâ mode, it is a great place to be a creative.
Lessons learned
You just never know what will happen during your campaign. Adapt.
Leave slush time to deal with fatigue and illness.

Creative Recharge
When my migraine wasnât attacking me, I did my homework for the Jinxworld book club and read Volume 1 & 2 of Human Target by Tom King. All I can say is, âWhat a beautiful series!â There is one particular page - a âfightâ scene - with lettering that makes me wish I had a copy for my wall. So cool. 10 out of 10 recommend for a mature audience. These books were available to read from my library via Hoopla.
âSlush time.â I need to figure out how to get ahold of some of that. :)
Yeah, The Human Target is such a beautiful book.
Excited for these new ideas you have with the scarcity wheel to be enacted!
