One of the most common questions I hear from new comic creators is, “Where can I find collaborators to help me create my comic?” I am starting two separate posts to act as perpetual resources with that question in mind.
Artists, this is a resource designed to be a place to start your search for a writer.
This is meant to be a living document that is constantly updated. If you know of another resource where artists can find a writer, please leave a comment, and I’ll add it to this page.
Where to find a writer:
1) Your cohort
There are several amazing online writing courses available. Joining one of these courses or even simply joining the associated message boards or Discord servers can be a great way to find and establish long-term connections with writers who are at the same stage of their comic career as you.
Comics Experience - writing and lettering courses.
2) Creative services
There are organizations out there that will help connect you with talent.
Comics Experience Creative Services. This is who found and deployed the talent for the prologue to The Lump Sum Saga. The service also handles all the contracts and buffers you from risk by vetting the talent.
3) GlobalComix
GlobalComix continues to be very supportive of indie creators. Be sure to check out their very active commissions page. This is an awesome talent database.
4) Facebook Groups
Connecting Comic Book Writers and Artists (37.8K Members)
5) Reddit
There are subreddits where you may find a collaborator.
6) Deploy some hashtag magic on social media.
Writers looking to collaborate frequently tag their work on Twitter & Instagram. The following tags will help you find writers, but this doesn’t necessarily me they are available to take on your project.
#comicbookwriter (21787)
#writingcomics (5594)
#comicwriting (4126)
#comicscreator (2803)
#comicscript (2492)
#comicbookproject (1955)
7) The comment section of this post.
Writers, are you open to collaborating? Add your information in a comment attached to this post. Be sure to indicate your page rate expectations and where an artist might be able to read an example of your work.
Subscribers, if you are uncomfortable posting your everyday e-mail address, I may be able to set up a forwarding address for you. Send a request to thelumpsumsaga@gmail.com.
I'm a writer always looking to collaborate with folks. I'm currently writing a novel series set in a world of superspies and superheroes, and always happy to talk creativity with anybody. Drop me a message here or email me @ charleshuwwilkins@gmail.com. Cheers for the opportunity to share, Greg!
Hi! I'm a writer & letterer eager to collaborate with creatives—or just meet/chat! I value character, story structure, and creativity in unique projects. See my superhero rom-com comic: bit.ly/when-starstrike-met-typhoon or Indiana-Jones-meets-vampires script: bit.ly/all-you-know. I admire comic writers like Watterson, Gillen, North, Hickman, and non-comic icons like Shakespeare, Miyazaki, Dickens, Sorkin, Calvino, Tolkien, & Ephron. Excited to connect! —Eric, ericherzobrien@gmail.com
